The Games Club of Maryland was founded to help bring gamers together and to help grow the hobby. GCOM Location gaming is open to the public and generally free of charge.

We play games - all kinds of games - whenever and wherever we can. We welcome everyone to come and play with us. The kinds of games we play may vary by location, some locations rely more on 'light' or party games, others on RPGs, wargames, train games, or mostly just general European Strategy Board games.

We sponsor several large events each year for gaming. EuroQuest is traditionally held in the fall, and Game Days, traditionally held in the spring, are our paid "Premier" events. We have a summer picnic, and a winter Holiday party.

We play games...

Our main goal is to have fun.

  • We welcome all gamers from novice to experienced.
  • We play games of all kinds, but mostly board games and card games.
  • We are very flexible and easy to get along with.
  • We have members of all ages and from various gaming and non-gaming backgrounds.
  • We promote a positive mental attitude, good sportsmanship, fair play, flexibility, open mindedness, patience and communication.
  • We provide many games, but also ask that members bring their favorites to share with the group.
  • We are always willing to teach and learn new games.
  • We are here to help share & grow the hobby of gaming.

Most gaming takes place at Host locations, where people may run a regularly scheduled game night or day. Some host locations are in game stores or public facilities. Most of our locations are hosted in peoples' homes. COVID closed them all down. We are gradually re-opening as location hosts feel more confident about hosting groups again. You can check out our Calendar to see where and when we have gaming scheduled. At one time we had locations in four states - Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania, and we hope to get back there again soon.

Most locations were pretty casual about attendance - just show up and you were welcome. Now, some have masking or vax requirements. Most locations are free to attend, but some may require a small contribution toward space rental. You should contact the host in advance if you are new to GCOM, or new to a location. Many hosts provide some beverages and snacks. Contributions of money or in kind are generally welcome.

Some locations are "Limited" locations. They are run for a specific purpose, or to play a specific game, or may have limited space. You always need to check with the host before you show up at a Limited location.

Most of our hosts have extensive games libraries, but it never hurts to bring your favorite games, especially if they are very new. GCOM maintains a Games Library that is available for lending when it is not being used for our events. Paid GCOM members can borrow games from it.
